  1. Great show, man! You gots questions, I gots answers! 1) The song that hooked me on rock music: "My Generation", and the song that removed my brain from my head, flew it into the cosmos and told me to buy a guitar and learn to play: "Castles Made of Sand". 2) Does a better instrument make you a better musician? Ha-ha, you won't pen me in with that one, Mr. Brown! I give to you my "in some cases" answer. A really terrible instrument makes it impossible to detect the finer points of articulation and intonation. However, you reach a point of diminishing returns where if you don't have the chops, going from a "nice" axe to a "really nice" axe won't save you.

  2. Thanks for the reply Mike!

I agree with you about instruments. I've long held the notion that parents who buy little Jimmy a $99 GSO (Guitar Shaped Object for those wondering) may, in fact, be *discouraging* the fledgling musician from playing. If you spend more time fighting a poor quality instrument than learning how to actually play, a newbie may tend to give up more quickly.

But as you also said, a player who's been at it for several years isn't going to notice much difference in playing ability going from a mid-priced Strat to a high-end PRS.

  3. Pretty dang cool, Tim.

A Desert Yellow Jem, eh? Man, I wish I would've had one of those back in '87... Oh wait...

Song that got me into music? Shit, don't even know if I remember, but it had to be a Kiss song. Hell, it might've been "Kiss You All Over" by Exile!! Song that called me to wanting to PLAY music was probably "Shock Me".

Like I've been saying for YEARS...Cheap Trick fuckin' rules! Was I the only person that bought "Woke Up With A Monster"?!? That album had some fantastic Trick tunes in it.

Does a better instrument make ya better? It does for me, but just cuz it makes me WANT to play more. My Les Paul Supreme is just a beast and if I pick it up, I end up playing the rest of the night. Finally getting a real acoustic, my Taylor 614, I realized that an acoustic can play as good as an electric and I ended up playing and discovering whole new styles of music.

Finally, "We're Anthrax and we take no shit..."
